Cultivate - Clothing

I'd hoped that this three-week break would allow me to get back to games development... and so far it has! I've been working on Cultivate - previously called Yden - and while there's a lot left to do, I thought I might as well document my progress as I go rather than just waiting until the end. Juggling!

Agh, sorry about not making fast progress on my games or posting things here recently! I'm not used to having anything resembling a Life, so now that I am getting out almost every day, I'm not doing a particularly good job of handling everything at once. The biggest impediment to progress has been depression, though. I feel at least that I'm improving my life conditions - slowly but surely - so hopefully soon I'll be able to get back on track. Anyway, I'll write here about my plans, what I'm up to, etc.

The Spiral

Firstly, ∞ here's the Android version of Taming Dreams ∞! I want to talk about TD a bit here, but also my games development as a whole. For years, I've been going around in circles, repeating patterns and getting nowhere. I start projects that are supposed to be short and fast and profitable, but they grow out of control and become too big to manage, so my attention is taken to new ideas instead. However, I feel that with each revolution, I get closer and closer to the point I've been circling. I'm able to take the best parts of my previous ideas and combine them into new ideas that are (I feel) better than those that came before. Creation is largely a process of trial and error anyway; nobody creates a masterpiece without leaving a trail of failures in their wake. My uncertainty about Taming Dreams that I spoke of in my ∞ last post ∞ has led to me looking back on all the games I've started and never finished, wondering whether cannibalising them might lead to the elusive holy grail I've been searching for (that is, a quick-to-make but profitable game). I've come up with four ideas I could potentially explore.

MARDEK Yden People!

I made a thing called Yden a while back... which I still haven't released. I plan to, eventually! After MARDEK's got started. I keep coming back to it, though - Yden, I mean - because I personally enjoy it as a game. I did so today... but felt that my mind should be on MARDEK instead. So I ended up making a few of the MARDEK cast using Yden's person creator thing!

I've been doing research - as I said I would - about the games promotion and marketing scene, and while it all does seem daunting, the more I learn the less scary it becomes, just like with anything. It ceases to be 'impossible' and becomes merely 'challenging'. I've got a lot left to learn, but I'm getting there.

I may start updating this thing whenever I have anything to say rather than once a week; I've also considered writing shorter posts about individual things (like artwork or music or whatever) rather than long ones about multiple things, but... we'll see.

Another Yden Update!

I've not done anything spectacularly new on Yden this week, though I think it's very near to release now; I don't think it needs anything more than a few hours of polishing... which of course will take me at least a week because it always ends up that way. I'm trying at least not to get carried away with new features at this point.
