The Spiral

Posted by A Tobias 12 months ago
Firstly, ∞ here's the Android version of Taming Dreams ∞! I want to talk about TD a bit here, but also my games development as a whole. For years, I've been going around in circles, repeating patterns and getting nowhere. I start projects that are supposed to be short and fast and profitable, but they grow out of control and become too big to manage, so my attention is taken to new ideas instead. However, I feel that with each revolution, I get closer and closer to the point I've been circling. I'm able to take the best parts of my previous ideas and combine them into new ideas that are (I feel) better than those that came before. Creation is largely a process of trial and error anyway; nobody creates a masterpiece without leaving a trail of failures in their wake. My uncertainty about Taming Dreams that I spoke of in my ∞ last post ∞ has led to me looking back on all the games I've started and never finished, wondering whether cannibalising them might lead to the elusive holy grail I've been searching for (that is, a quick-to-make but profitable game). I've come up with four ideas I could potentially explore.

The Future of Taming Dreams

Posted by A Tobias 1 year ago
As always, here's a link to the ∞ Android version of Taming Dreams ∞, since attention to it went down a lot when I didn't include one! Speaking of which, the game's not been a huge success so far. I know that's because I've yet to actively promote it, but - while most of the feedback has been positive, some very positive - some statistics and negative feedback makes me wonder about where I should actually go from here...

Miasmoney!

Posted by A Tobias 1 year ago
Urgh. I've been in the grip of that dark demon that is depression recently, and I've got exams next week (already), so work's been slower than usual and I've been neglecting correspondence (and basically avoiding people in the real world; not a good thing, that). Sorry about that, if you've been waiting for a reply! I have however got to the point with Taming Dreams where I no longer have anything left to do before it's ready for release. Oh, and I've added a microtransaction shop. Surely that'll be a popular idea.

Episode Pricing & Description

Posted by A Tobias 1 year ago
I'm currently uploading Taming Dreams to the app store, and I'm having to decide on a description of the app as a whole, and a price for episode 3. I wish that different countries didn't use different currencies, though!

How I'm Doing

Posted by A Tobias 1 year ago
The comments on the previous post made me aware that I've not actually ~talked about my feelings~ in a while, so I've not made it clear how I'm doing on a personal level. It's not that I'm trying to hide anything or put on a brave face; I simply haven't had the time! I'm working absurdly long hours at the moment in a rush to finish episode 3 - essentially from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep - and when I'm not working, I just want to rest and relax, which doesn't involve typing things. I'll probably cover quite a lot of things here, though!

Fretful Musings on Obsolescence

Posted by A Tobias 1 year ago
I'm planning to release MARDEK 'as soon as possible', but ugh; every time I think I'm done, I discover new barriers in the way... Not just technical bugs with MARDEK, but other things relating to how to release an app, or psychological avoidance stemming from isolation and a lack of immediate emotional support that makes it difficult to do research in the first place.

I need help!

Posted by A Tobias 2 years ago
MARDEK's done, and I want to release it. However, I don't know how. Or rather, I don't know what the best approach would be. If anyone knows anything about this, or has any suggestions about who to contact, or is willing to do research of their own to learn the ins and outs of the industry so then we can all pool our knowledge together, I'd appreciate it; currently I'm feeling really overwhelmed because I have nobody 'in the know' to talk to and so I feel like I have to face all this alone. And so I'm writing this!

Finally!

Posted by A Tobias 2 years ago
I've got to a point with the mobile-slash-new version of MARDEK where I can upload it for testing, and start figuring out how to release it. I've also enabled membership for this site, so you can create an account and comment on these posts and the forum if you want. Sorry that it's all taken so long! I imagine this... transition may be fairly stressful for me, though, so I'm going to write out various thoughts and things here.

More MARDEK Release Ideas

Posted by A Tobias 2 years ago
I tested an Android version of MARDEK for the first time today (after struggling to get it to work for a while due to inexperience), and I found it quite exciting to play it on a handheld device! Until now, all my games have always just been on my computer monitor... This gives me a somewhat clearer idea of what I could possibly do with it, though I'm still uncertain, so I'm going to write out my current thoughts and ideas here again.

Vlog's an odd word

Posted by A Tobias 2 years ago
I've been doing research over the last few days about how I might make money from MARDEK... but I think all my options will require a severe shift in the way I live. This is... a tricky thing, and I'm going to think aloud here in the hope that some epiphany might arise from it.
