My Mon Games

Posted by A Tobias 10 months ago
Pokemon's popular again. I like this, because I've always liked Pokemon, ∞ as I wrote at tedious length in my personal blog ∞. Making a Pokemon-like game myself is probably the idea I've returned to the most over the years, and that flame has been rekindled by Pokemon GO. Before diving into yet another project I'll fail to finish, however, I'd like to revisit and review my old attempts at making a monster catching game; what I feel worked or didn't.

I'll continue with my playthrough of MARDEK shortly, but first, here's some concept art for a miasmon that I'll probably include in the starting area of the reboot!

Plans

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
I've been doing research - as I said I would - about the games promotion and marketing scene, and while it all does seem daunting, the more I learn the less scary it becomes, just like with anything. It ceases to be 'impossible' and becomes merely 'challenging'. I've got a lot left to learn, but I'm getting there.

Miasmon 2014 - Week 2

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
I would have written this yesterday, but I was too busy working on Miasmon until the stupid hours in the morning! I had a slow start this week due to real-life frustrations and distractions, but over the last few days I've been working with great focus and getting a whole lot done. It feels like I've made huge progress, yet the screenshots I'm about to show don't really reflect that because most of what I did was behind-the-scenes technical stuff, such as getting maps to scroll properly, coding the battle flow, damage formulae, etc, and making a full conversation system and an editor for it.

Miasmon 2014 - Week 1

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
After releasing that prototype version of Miasmon, I decided to focus my attentions on a new version for a while. I've started and scrapped Miasmon as a project far too many times now, but I feel like I've reached a point in my life where I just can't do that anymore. So I've decided to gather together all the pieces that I felt worked from those past attempts and combine them into one final attempt that I'll hopefully stick with. Maybe I already said all this?!

Miasmon Prototype Release?

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
I just spent about 6 hours over the last couple of days playing the old, entirely working version of Miasmon... The version I made first, which is basically a Pokemon clone. The one that looks like this:

Weekly Update!

Whoops, I forgot to write one of these yesterday; I thought it was Saturday and not Sunday. Surely the world is in disarray now because everyone in it cares so dearly about the empty promises and lies of some has-been games developer!!1

More Miasmon Stuff!

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
I experimented with getting a game to run on my mobile phone yesterday, and was successful! It was just a simple test screen that played some music and showed an image (rather than a port of one of my existing games, which would be more complicated to do), but it was EXCITING, and took me back to the days when I'd make simple text-based games on my TI-83 graphing calculator thing back in school, back when I was first learning how to program. Oh, those were the days and so on. It's sort of given me a new burst of enthusiasm about games development, especially since it's possible to run things made in Flash on a mobile device rather than having to learn a whole new language!
