Episode 3's almost ready!

I've finished episode 3 to the point where it's almost ready for beta testing! It's not 100% done, but I'll be able to use the testing phase to add the finishing touches. I'll explain here how that testing phase is likely to work. Also, I've probably decided to change to the new title!

Renaming MARDEK?

I've been wanting to rename this new version of MARDEK for a while. The only reason I've stuck with the MARDEK title is in the hope that it'll attract the attention of people who are familiar with the old chapters, though I don't feel that it's particularly representative of the game at all. Everything else is so full of meaning except the title, which feels wrong...

Fate and Hate

I've finished the first draft of episode 3, which means that almost all of the dialogue is 'done', but I need to play through the whole thing again making notes and trying to make everything work as a whole. I love working on the game, so I don't mind at all spending all day every day doing that... but I can't say that I'm as ecstatic about reading all of the feedback, which I've just done...

I made some fairly major changes to the way that MARDEK works today! Many people have said that the thing they liked most about the originals was learning skills from equipment, and others have said of the new version that the lack of numerical character growth following agitation leaves the experience more hollow than it might otherwise be. So I've added a 'level up' sort of system which isn't entirely dissimilar to the skill-learning of the old version!

How I'm Doing

The comments on the previous post made me aware that I've not actually ~talked about my feelings~ in a while, so I've not made it clear how I'm doing on a personal level. It's not that I'm trying to hide anything or put on a brave face; I simply haven't had the time! I'm working absurdly long hours at the moment in a rush to finish episode 3 - essentially from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep - and when I'm not working, I just want to rest and relax, which doesn't involve typing things. I'll probably cover quite a lot of things here, though!

Thanks to all of you who have provided feedback, especially those who took the time to fill in the ∞ feedback form ∞! It's been so immensely useful to know what people think in detail, as it allows me to know what I can tweak and gives me much motivation to continue working on this thing. I haven't had the time or energy to respond to any of the feedback directly yet (either I'm working frantically on MARDEK or I'm exhausted), but I'd like to mention a few general things here!

v2.2.014 BETA & Feedback Form

Sorry about the silence over the last few days; I've been feeling strangely excited about improving MARDEK, and I've spent almost every waking moment on it as a result! I've fixed a few bugs, but more importantly I've made it so that the game looks nice and crisp no matter the resolution, rather than scaling poorly as it did before. I've also changed the main font, and it looks and feels so, so much better, I feel! I've uploaded a new update; if you've already got the Android version, either it'll tell you about the update automatically, or you'll find it in the app store... or something? I'm not sure how that works. If you have an Android device and want to beta test, ∞ this post ∞ will tell you how! I'll also include a list of changes and a feedback form in this post!

Crisp Mobile Scaling (EDIT)

I'm still working on MARDEK, and I've fixed several things (though I'm in the middle of fixing others, so I can't upload an update just yet), but I'm particularly concerned about the fact that the game scales poorly on the wide variety of mobile screen resolutions, leading to graphical glitches - such as gaps between tiles or some pixels being smaller than others - and difficulties interacting with too-small controls or reading too-small text. I should probably re-engineer the whole thing to, well, work better, but it'll be quite an undertaking...
