Idea: Inner Demons

Posted by A Tobias 1 year ago
I like Pokemon, and I like personal development. I've recently been brainstorming ideas for an app - not really a game - which is sort of a combination of these two. Perhaps it'd be called something like "Inner Demons" or "Mind Tamer" or "Emotimon" or some better title I've yet to come up with, and it'd be a way of visualising and cultivating our inner worlds in terms of traits, fears, aspirations, strengths, and personal connections, represented as animal-like creatures that you feed whenever you engage a part of yourself, and in feeding them, they grow and evolve to represent your own personal growth and evolution.

How I Work

Posted by A Tobias 2 years ago
For years now, I've tried to maximise my productivity by using various self-made timetables and to do lists and the like, with mixed results. Usually they worked wonders for about a week or so, then the motivation fizzled out and I fell back into old habits and procrastination. However, each new attempt built on the last, and a few months ago I feel I did come up with something that works relatively well for me, and has added much-needed structure to my work days consistently for the last few months. I'd like to talk about my methods here, partly because I'm embarrassed about delaying with message replies or about imagined thoughts of people thinking I'm 'not doing anything' or that I'm taking forever to get MARDEK done, BUT also because I know I'm not the only one who struggles with these things, and I know I always like reading about what has worked for other people so then I might get some inspiration from them.

Burnout

Posted by A Tobias 2 years ago
MARDEK's been 'almost done' for ages now. It really should have been finished days or even weeks ago, but I've noticed that the stronger I push myself to get through the final stretch, the more drained and exhausted I feel, and the less I get done each day. I'd like to write a bit about the thoughts and feelings behind this, as well as I suppose realisations I've had about the creative process and my own best working habits. I'll also talk a bit about how much of MARDEK remains to be done (not much, basically).

The Haunting Night

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
I have been 'at peace' for these last few weeks, and my inner and outer worlds have been changing significantly due to this... However, unfortunately, being at peace isn't the same as being happy. Negative thoughts still have the power to creep in, though a peaceful outlook enables you to handle inner darkness without being consumed by it.

Snip!

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
It seems that the key to happiness isn't to think bubbly thoughts about puppies and rainbows and smiles; it's to stop negative trains of thought dead in their tracks before you get run down by them. An absence of tormenting thoughts - or even just the minor grumbles and quibbles that surely plague the thoughts of even relatively well-adjusted people every day - leads to a sort of peace that allows you to better focus on whatever it is you need or want to do at any given moment. It's useful, I think, to use a 'command word' to help stop negative thoughts...

30 Day Challenge

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
Have you ever heard of the '30 Day Challenge'? Essentially, it takes about thirty days to form a habit, some people probably said at some point, so if you want to pick up a new hobby or skill or add a certain activity to your daily routine, then you should try to do it every day for 30 days, after which you'll either know for sure that it's not for you, or it'll have become ingrained in such a way that it's harder to stop than it is to continue with it.

The Folly of Fault-Finding

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
It's impossible to feel happy with something if you're too busy trying to improve it. There are certain types of people who live in troubleshooting mode, constantly pointing out faults and flaws with everything that they see, imagining something better than what is... They tend to see this outlook as noble; they're helping others, after all! Or perhaps they feel so bad about themselves - because they're not spared from their critical eye! - that pointing out that others are broken like they are is the only way they can feel better about themselves... Such a critical nature causes nothing but problems, though, for anyone unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end of it for prolonged periods, and especially for the critic themselves. I know that this is the case because I've been one of these critics myself... Or rather, I still am, and it's not easy shedding that manner of thinking.

Productivity Again!

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
I've been very focused and productive over the last few days, and it's left me feeling positive and satisfied with what I've achieved each day... which is wonderful compared to the frustration and despair I feel after wasting a day procrastinating. This kind of focus didn't happen randomly; it was a result of experimenting again with productivity-boosting techniques that I wrote about before, but which I'll cover again with some new thoughts.

Monsters Spawn Monsters

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
Are you a good person? Am I? Do you think I am? Do I think I am? My own answer to that is: no, I don't think I am, BUT I think that people are able to grow, and escape their faults through self-development. It's a long and gruelling process, but it's better to try and struggle than to deny your faults and go on hurting others.

You Are What You Do

Posted by A Tobias 3 years ago
This is an immediate follow-up to the previous post; I considered deleting that one, but perhaps being able to view a train of thought might be interesting to people. Anyway, I've been reading about things like the psychology of trolling and such, in order to understand why people act the way they do, and I've found some interesting things... which don't necessarily agree with each other, at least at first glance. I'm curious to understand as best I can, and to change myself if at all possible so then I might lead a more positive life, so I'm basically just going to ramble on about what I've found and my thoughts and, well, maybe it'll be interesting to someone, somewhere.
