Mario & FFVIII & Sora AI

Some rather brief (ha) thoughts about Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the Super Mario RPG Remake, Final Fantasy VIII, and a new video-generating AI called Sora. Those things are all related, right??

On Media Claimed By The Young; Another Eden
5 months ago2,278 words
I’ve actually done a lot of work on Dreamons this week, gasp! Though instead of going into detail about that, here's some rambling about popular creations being most obsessively consumed by the young and impressionable. Also, did you know there's a mobile JRPG made by some of the creators of Chrono Trigger? Plus a brief bit about the loneliness epidemic.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R
5 months ago6,109 words
Star Ocean: The Second Story was one of the many games I had for the original Playstation during my childhood. It's probably one of the first RPGs I ever played, and was likely a huge influence for what I did with my own RPGs, especially MARDEK. I just finished the recently-released remake, so here's an exhausting excess of spoiler-filled thoughts about that!

So What Now? (Greedy Unity, Life Milestones, Alien Mummies, Etc)
7 months ago2,380 words
Some noteworthy things have happened in the news recently! Not much has happened in my own life, though, due to a combination of taking time off, not being happy with where I am, and not knowing where I should go.

Looking Back at Memody: Sindrel Song
8 months ago5,214 words
I recently replayed this eccentric 'musical memory game' I actually finished and released in 2019. Despite some fears that I'd cringe over concerns about its content, I ended up feeling mostly impressed and in some cases surprisingly emotional! It's such a shame so few people got to experience the most moving moments though due to the gameplay barrier in the way...

Weekly Update - Tutorial Tips
2 years ago1,512 words
I recently finished the Live A Live Remake... but barely understood its mechanics, as has been the case with pretty much all RPGs I've played in the past. Annoying! Tutorials are the norm for modern games, and here's an overwhelming barrage of images showing all of the tutorials Atonal Dreams includes to hopefully explain its mechanics in a more satisfying way. But are they too much?? Not clear enough?!? I'd value your input!

Weekly Update - Waiting for Alpha Feedback, Anxiously Procrastinating
2 years ago2,093 words
I've spent this week waiting for feedback for the Atonal Dreams Alpha... or rather, that feels like an excuse to shirk work more than anything, as I find the mere thought of the next big steps - or the alternative severe life changes if this won't work out - so distressing. I should try to play a game for the first time in ages to destress and reinspire myself, but I've been struggling to decide which one!

Chrono Cross & Radical Dreamers
2 years ago3,207 words
In case you don't already know, Chrono Cross is a PS1 game that's a sequel (kind of) to the SNES classic Chrono Trigger, which just got a re-release/remaster on the Switch. I just played about an hour of it, and wanted to write out some thoughts, mainly about the battle system. The remaster also includes a short text-based prequel (again, kind of) called Radical Dreamers, which I played and also want to write out some thoughts about!

I finally got around to watching this film, and it's easily one of the best things I've ever seen! I don't want to write a full review or anything; I just wanted to post about it briefly because it felt wrong not to acknowledge it at all.

Creativity & Critics

I feel the drive to do something creative, and I've been playing around with ideas recently... But the fear of criticism really gets in the way of producing anything, especially since I want to use art as a way of coping with and communicating my psychological struggles, which has hardly been met with eager excitement in the past.

Those who have faith make requests of their god(s) or the conscious universe in order to get what they want from the world... While I've always thought the idea rather ludicrous, I've recently been wondering whether they're onto something.

Since the world works in mysterious ways, immediately following my ∞ glimpse into oblivion ∞, I randomly saw ∞ this miniseries thing ∞ that dealt with suicide and depression in a way that brought me to tears. Sources call it a dark comedy, or even a sitcom, but I think that's misleading; it's quite intensely emotional and really quite odd. It gave me ideas about how I could use my own creative work to address the issues that are most resonant to me.
