I just recently watched a video talking about a game that created a lot of hype. And then when the actual game came out, the game was mediocre at best and faced harsh critisism and backlash at worst.

It really goes to show that the main guy behind the project is a better sales person than a game designer. Because the voice actors and assistants attested to his character as a guy with good intentions that was in over his head, the director survived the crucifixion by the fandom, and ended up getting employment at Activision, a corporate game publisher.

It really ahows that a good game does not automatically equal financial sucess, while a mediocre/bad game can succeed with a good marketing team.

On a tangent, my computer's antivirus setting prevented me from accessing this specific post saying it's a phishing site. Not sure if you are able to do something about it, but yeah. Posting from mobile btw.

I was going to watch that since I'm trying to watch all the indie games stuff I can recently, but unfortunately I don't have over an hour for it at the moment!

Marketing really does seem to be everything though... which is frustrating. Even if the game's bad, you've already got their money so it doesn't matter, if you've suceeded in convincing them it's worth it. My issue is that I'm so... the opposite of that, I don't want to impose my work on others. I wonder if it'll ever be possible to make money from this despite that.

Phishing site?? That gave me a jolt of anxiety! It wouldn't be the first time my site's had issues like that, but I don't see anything obvious in the files or code (though they usually aren't obvious), and I'm not experiencing any issues or warnings... Does it do it with other pages on this site too, or just that specific post? On multiple browsers?

For the video, I saw that it is broken down into chapters so you can skip past the history of the Half-Life games and other stuff.

I'm using Chrome if that's any help. And the antivirus is webroot. The only notification from my antivirus is for this specific post. I check back to the other posts, and no notification. I made sure to check, the home page and types of posts. Its just this one blog post.
