How interesting! I wonder how common an inability to burp is, considering three separate people have told me they can't either. I wrote a poll about it on Reddit, but I got the impression it was interpreted as a joke or trolling and got downvoted since I suppose the idea that anyone couldn't burp is likely completely alien to most people. I've never heard anyone talking about it before.

I have a mild-ish form of what I only recently learned is called emetophobia - fear of vomiting - so I rarely if ever vomit. I think the last time was after literal brain surgery, and even then it was only once? I wonder whether or not it's related to this; maybe it hurt a lot in the past, and that's why I developed an aversion?

Is there any specific technique you can share for forcing something at least vaguely burp-like? I might also search for 'air vomiting' on Reddit to see what they say. I tried something the other day, just after discovering all this, where I kind of sucked in my chest muscles, which forced something out... though since then I've just been enduring the gurgling. At least the chest pain's mostly gone.

Was the botox not an option for you? I don't know if it'd be an option for me, due to location, cost, and mental health issues.
